Something's Got to Give

Unfortunately, it's going to be this blog. With raising a toddler, getting settled in the new house, training for a half-marathon, participating in both the Vocal Worship Ensemble and lead worshipper teams at church, participating in MOPS and other playgroups, keeping up with laundry and the house and caring for the birds, etc etc etc...I just can't seem to pull out the camera on a daily basis and find new and exciting ways to capture every day objects. It was a fun venture while it lasted, but I need to free myself up from a few obligations and this one needs to go.

Catching Up

Yeah, I know I'm a week behind. Everyone's been sick around here. I decided to title this week's theme, "The Many Faces of Nyssa." Hope you enjoy.

This week's theme: Words

I'm borrowing a theme from another group because I am having trouble coming up with my own today.

It should be interesting to see what unfolds as the week progresses!

Friday's Forgotten Treasure

I couldn't take just one photo of this one. It belonged to my grandmother and has letters from her mom and dad in it.

It says: Name - Ida Mae Crawford
Age - Fifteen (15).
Birthday - January 20, Born - 1921
Date Today - June 3, 1936.
Adress - Lueders, Texas R # 1

This reads:
Lueders Tx R # 1.
June 3, 1936
My Dear Daughter
Ida Mae,

The wish of your "mother"
is to always do what is
right, where ever you are or
where ever you go; And
you will always be as
a bright shining star to
lead others with whom you
come in contact.
Lovingly, Mother
Mrs. A.P. Crawford

This reads:
Lueders Tex
June 3, 1936
Do unto others
as you would have
them do unto you
Dad

Wednesday's Forgotten Treasure

Wood carving is an art form.

Wood carving a pencil is a very specialized art form! This pencil was made for me by a friend I had in college. He was the co-leader of our Inter-G group my freshman year at ACU. At the end of our group's time together, he distributed these one of a kind carved pencils as gifts to the group's members. We were all VERY impressed by his talent and skill. I tucked this special pencil away in my little Lane cedar box and pulled it out tonight.

Tuesday's Forgotten Treasure

It's been a crazy day and I need to get to bed, so I will tell you about this treasure tomorrow. Ok, I've had some rest and have included the story below.

This necklace and pendant belonged to my grandmother. I remember spending hours going through her jewelry box with her, looking at all of her costume jewelry. She had quite a few lovely (albeit inexpensive) things and I loved spending that time with her and hearing the stories that went along with each piece of jewelry.

I don't recall how I ended up with this piece, but I do remember wearing it to school when I was in junior high and high school when we had those spirit days where you dress up as a hippie. I was always excited to get to wear it.

This Week's Theme: Forgotten Treasures

As we are unpacking , I am running across things I forgot I had, but that I treasure.

I bought this little oil lamp not long after I moved to Dallas. My best friend and I were shopping (I was window shopping, as I was unemployed, looking for work, and short on cash). I spotted this little treasure at Restoration Hardware and thought, Wow, I'd really love to have that. But I only have $3 in my wallet and I bet it's $15 or more. On a whim I picked up the box and looked at the price. Would you believe it was marked down to $3?! I grabbed my little treasure and whisked it away to the register. Seven years later it still graces the top of my dresser.

January 12, 2008

I'm going to institute a theme of the week for Monday through Friday starting next week so that we don't end up with 366 photos of my darling daughter. :-) That's not to say I won't ever post photos of her...but part of this exercise is to challenge me creatively and that means taking photos of more than just the center of my universe. :-)

The First Eleven

I think four of these were taken on January 5, two on the 8th, and the rest really were a photo a day. How can I not constantly take photos of such an adorable subject?

New Blog

Well, it's January 11 and I'm already 11 photos behind. I've been mulling the idea of taking a photo a day for the entire year of 2008 for a while (ever since I got my Nikon D300 for my birthday a week ago). I took the plunge, created this blog, and am now going to go through the photos I've already taken this year to find 11 to get me caught up.
